Vacationers often return home with a piece of Palm Springs.  Mid-Century Modern, Early California and antiques and collectibles from every era can be found at the Palm Springs Vintage Market.  It’s open the first Sunday of every month, and it’s a great way to spend time before or after Sunday brunch.

ASK A LOCAL – VICTOR TORT

We love to share top secrets from local Palm Springs’ “men in the know”. This month we checked in with Victor Tort, a local fitness trainer, professional cyclist and all-around health enthusiast.

Favorite place to ride?

Palm Springs is a beautiful place to ride a bike. There is beautiful scenery everywhere and the sunrises are amazing. The Tram Road is my favorite ride but I can’t wait for the new CV Link to open.  It’s the new biking trail linking the entire Coachella Valley.

Like many locals Victor decided to move to Palm Springs after vacationing here with his partner. Originally from Puerto Rico (La Isla del Encanto) Victor’s lived in Miami, Orlando (a stint with Disney), and San Francisco. Victor is a personal trainer, TRX and Spin Instructor.

He has specialty training in body alignment and pain management. In Palm Springs, he’s focused on helping clients with physical conditions related to tennis and golf.  You can find out more at www.victortort.com.  Victor’s continuing passion is cycling and he races regularly in Velodromes in both San Diego and Los Angeles.

Favorite way to spend your day off?

Cycling, tennis, golf, swim or gym – studying and recovering from my work days.

Best place to people watch?

I like Thursday nights at Village Fest – the street fair on Palm Canyon Drive.  For me I like it because every week I see different people walking, lots of kids, dogs, and everyone having a nice time walking around.

When you go to Cabazon Outlets which stores do you have to go to?

Nike and Asics.  As a trainer, I can find my “suit and tie” there, and Polo, of course.

What is your favorite bike store in Palm Springs?

There is only one bike shop for me and it is Palm Springs Cyclery on Palm Canyon Drive.   And I love Mike’s Bike Truck (it is a mobile bike truck mechanic   LOVE IT!!

Let us know if you’d like to arrange a one on one training session with Victor.  We’d be happy to put you in touch. We can also provide information on tennis, golf, swimming, local gyms or whatever your personal exercise needs are!

Check out these links to see the many options for outdoor physical activities in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley:

ASK THE LOCALS: Conrad Miller and Brandon Holland

Every so often, we like to share some Local Haunts with you. This time we ask Power Realtor couple Brandon Holland and Conrad Miller, the men behind Palm Springs Home Team, for their favorite tips.

Conrad and Brandon, working with their company Palm Springs Home Team, offer first-time buyers or seasoned pros, exceptional service for staging, marketing and selling properties.  Conrad, Brandon and the entire Palm Springs Home Team share a stellar reputation for exceptional results.  Here are their tips for an exceptional stay in Palm Springs.

Where do you enjoy going for a cocktail?  Melvyn’s – We love the whole retro vibe and the history of the place.  Plus, do NOT miss out on going to the bathroom there and check out the pay phone that Sinatra, Martin, etc. all used!  Ultra coolness!

What is your favorite late night spot?  The Copa – whether it’s Leslie Jordan or some phenomenal singer, their shows are fabulous!

What do you think is the best kept secret in Palm Springs?  The Judy Show at The Purple Room – Judy Garland is not dead, she’s alive and mesmerizing crowds just as she always has!

The uptown design district has a ton of new, amazing boutiques.  Which one is your go to?  Motif – Nathan Allen has some of the most unique items in Palm Springs.  You have got to check out his “Between the Lines” series of prints – stunning!!!  A very close second is Michael Weems.  Just stopping by to say hello to Michael will brighten your day!

If I asked you to take me to your favorite “locals only” spot for dinner, where would we go?   Billy Reeds – their cheesecake alone will make a wet spot!

Where is your favorite happy hour?  Tropicale – Great service, great drinks and appetizers that will make you want to slap yo mama!

When you go to the Cabazon Outlets, which 3 stores do you have to go through?  Robert Graham (Conrad loves lots of color – if you can’t hide it, decorate it!), Armani and Diesel (no trip there is complete without them!)

Where is the best people watching in Downtown? Lulu’s Patio – whether checking out the hot guys from WeHo or the sandals and socks from Wisconsin, you are never at a loss for entertainment!

What do you feel the top 3 things someone should know before jumping into the PS Real Estate Market?

1)  Not all agents are created equal.  Enough said!

2)  Palm Springs market is rebounding from the downturn faster than any city in the Coachella Valley.  And the home prices are ridiculously attainable when compared to major markets. (SF, Portland, NY, SD, Boston……..)

3)  Find advocates (agents) who know the city, know the market, know how to negotiate, know how provide the ultimate in customer service and know that their success is only tied to your ultimate happiness and satisfaction.

Get in touch with Conrad and Brandon at the Palm Springs Home Team if you’re interested in working with them.

ASK A LOCAL: RON DURAN

Each month, we share some top secrets from Palm Springs “men in the know.” After you check into Santiago, be sure to check out a few of these great local spots. Ron Duran is the co-owner of Pilates Plus in Palm Springs.

Go-to restaurant: Mr. Lyons Steakhouse. An amazing bar, great bar menu, and happy hour menu. The burger is kickass and the Brussels sprouts are not to be missed!

Late night spot: Chill Bar on Arenas has the club experience. Or maybe a drink at the bar at Birba, which has an indoor/outdoor chill mixed crowd restaurant and bar.

Best mixologists: Seymour’s at Mr. Lyons Steakhouse. This is one of the coolest new hidden places to go in PS. They will create a specialty drink on the spot – just tell them what you like and you’ll be treated to an amazing new experience.

Early hangout spot: Wang’s for Friday happy hour or an early lite bite at Gyoro Gyoro Sushi.

Favorite event: Meet at the Museum. This fundraiser for the Palm Springs Art Museum draws the coolest of the cool during White Party weekend. There’s usually food, entertainment, and an open bar and above all, it helps the museum.

Best kept secret in Palm Springs: The hiking here is not to be missed, especially after a rain. It will be a beautiful spring on the trails this year.

Favorite adventure: A trip to Pappy and Harriet’s is such a great night out and as long as you have a designated driver it’s the best out-of-the-way place to let your hair down. Music, food and drink are plentiful and the crowd is diverse and chill.

Favorite stores: Wil Stiles has a killer array of clothes for men and women. Unique, stylish and always a selection you can wear for poolside parties, black tie events and everything in between. Mr. Turk right next door has the Palm Springs look for a cool Modernism event where you want to dress to impress.

Do. Not. Miss.: I love the exhibits at the Palm Springs Art Museum. I’m a big supporter and it’s always worth the time to check out what’s new.

Get Up Close and Personal with Planes

Did you know the desert has one of the most extensive, celebrated air museums in the country? CNN Travel named the Palm Springs Air Museum one of the top 14 aviation museums in the world and it’s easy to see why. Three hangars hold over 40 vintage planes you can actually touch and explore. And docents, many of whom fought in those planes, will amaze you with riveting true stories you can’t read on any placard. You may even catch a live flight demonstration of a classic wartime aircraft. Check out this special place for an unforgettable, even emotional, experience.

If you want to experience just what it was like to be in one of these historic flying machines, the museum offers Warbird Rides, and if you want to try your hand at exactly what it would be like to fly one, you can picture yourself in airman gear and play with one of several flight simulators on site.

For more information about tours, special programs and Warbird Rides, visit the museum’s site www.palmspringsairmuseum.org!
