COLD ONE

Known for its array of sleek cocktail bars, in addition to a fair share of “divey” local-favorites, Palm Springs has not been immune to the nation’s recent craft beer explosion. With summer here, you’re going to want to check out one (or two) of our favorite local breweries and enjoy a cold one (or two.)   Next to the pool at Santiago, this could possibly be one of the best ways to enjoy the desert’s heat.

La Quinta Brewing Company

With three different valley locations, including Palm Springs’ only true taproom, La Quinta Brewing features a regular lineup of their award-winning staples, as well as a rotating selection of seasonally-inspired creations. With weekly live music performances and monthly trivia nights, La Quinta Brewing Company is a vibrant social gathering place for locals and tourists alike. Their carefully curated selection of guest wines and ciders also ensure that all patrons can find something to their liking.

We like:  Even Par IPA – Citrus-leaning IPA brewed with Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic hops.

Coachella Valley Brewing Company

Just a short 20 minute drive from downtown Palm Springs (and just down the street from the gorgeous Coachella Valley Preserve), CVB emphasizes sustainability by utilizing locally-sourced ingredients to make some of the most unique beer the valley has to offer. Complete with a gameroom, live performance space, twice-daily brewery tours, and a rotating cast of local food vendors, CVB has cemented itself as one of the desert’s premiere beer-destinations.

We like:  Desert Swarm – Belgian Wit made with honey, coriander and locally-grown kumquat

Babe’s BBQ and Brewhouse

Babe’s, the desert’s oldest active brewery, has been bringing award-winning beer to valley residents since 2002. Come for the beer, stay for the food! Voted Best BBQ in the valley by Palm Springs Life six years running, Babe’s expansive food offerings utilize bar-b-cue styles ranging from Korea to Texas.

We like: Blackfin Lager – a unique spin on a traditional lager, darker in tone with hints of caramel

Idyllwild BrewPub

Just an hour’s drive from Palm Springs, this brewpub nestled in the small mountain town of Idyllwild is the perfect excuse to escape the heat of the desert below and enjoy the cooler temperatures in mountains overlooking the Coachella Valley. Using ingredients sourced from around the world to stay true to each particular style of beer, Idyllwild BrewPub has more than 20 different offerings to choose from.

We like:  Cedar St. Cherry Wheat – a pale wheat ale infused with cherries
