For a completely new architectural experience, check out Pioneertown, a unique destination that’s just what the architect ordered. Built as a movie set in the 1940s by Gene Autry and other Hollywood actors, Pioneertown is a monument to the Old West–only about 30 minutes from the Uptown Design District and not a sunburst wall clock in sight.

By far the most popular spot here is Pappy and Harriet’s, a saloon-type joint that features live music every night (you never know who will be playing) and an authentic, mesquite-grilled menu.
